Job Brief:

Walinga Inc. is currently looking to fill a full-time Plant Manager position. The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the manufacturing plant, ensuring efficiency, quality and safety.  They manage the plant personnel and equipment to ensure that the team can accomplish the production objectives. In addition to managing plant personnel and driving continuous improvement initiatives, the Plant Manager will play a critical role in the development and execution of strategic initiatives that align with the company’s long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the plant environment to be in compliance with (or exceed) the local Health & Safety policies and requirements by participating in the local Health & Safety committee team meetings.
  • Manage local inventory management operational activities to support production, aligned with corporate inventory management policy.
  • Execute the production schedule in close co-operation with the Production Manager and local supervisors to maintain throughput and attain production targets.
  • Establish, collect, analyze and report operational key performance indicators (KPIs) for the PCS Operations Manager.
  • Monitor, analyze and report production performance variances, working with applicable stakeholders to implement strategies to minimize variances and increase efficiency.
  • Manage local quality control activities, and ensure prompt root cause analysis and corrective actions are taken for quality issues.
  • Participate in the generation of the applicable department monthly/annual budget(s) and monitor and control operating expenses to achieve budgetary goals
  • Manage the local maintenance team to ensure the equipment and buildings are professionally maintained as a superior environment for staff and to support efficient manufacturing.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct reviews of the plant’s risks, identifying potential challenges and implementing mitigation strategies. 
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency/quality improvements in all local plant operations
  • Work with related stakeholders to develop process and design improvements in the products manufactured in that location.
  • Monitor and research new manufacturing technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential to improve plant operations and recommend the adoption of innovative solutions where applicable.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering to source and procure new or replacement equipment required to meet the company's goals and objectives.
  • Plan staffing requirements and co-ordinate recruitment with the Human Resources department.
  • Promote positive, safe, team-oriented culture in accordance with Walinga Core Values.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Supervisors and Lead hands, promoting professional growth and development.
  • Engage staff in CI activities, both ad hoc and toward strategic initiatives
  • Maintain performance management of direct reports, including annual performance evaluations and performance improvement plans, and ensure direct reports do the same for their staff members. 

 

  • Education level/ Experience/ Certifications / Licenses:
      • Post Secondary School education in manufacturing engineering is preferred.
      • Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership role within the manufacturing industry, with a strong track record of driving operational excellence in a manufacturing environment, and achieving results.

  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Strong administrative skills, ability to manage and maintain data
    • Excellent computer skills; ability to leverage technology to achieve results
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to make data-driven decisions and implement effective solutions.
    • Ability to work with finance for the creation of monthly/annual budgets, and manage expenses & results in keeping with those budgets
    • In depth understanding of manufacturing and related industry production techniques and best practices
    • Knowledge of all applicable health & safety standards and relative environmental, safety standards and ability to follow up on unsafe conditions
    • Be approachable and empathetic
    • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
