Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and versatile Health & Safety Specialist to join our Human Resources team. In this dual-function role, approximately 70% of your time will be dedicated to overseeing environmental, health, and safety (H&S) initiatives to ensure a compliant, secure, and hazard-free workplace. The remaining 30% of your time will focus on talent acquisition—sourcing, screening, and onboarding top talent to support our growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health & Safety (70%)

  • Program Management & Compliance: Develop, maintain, and execute health and safety policies in compliance with federal, state, and local occupational safety standards (e.g., OSHA).
  • Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular workplace safety audits, risk assessments, and facility inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead incident and near-miss investigations, analyze root causes, and implement preventative measures to reduce future risk.
  • Safety Training: Design and conduct interactive safety onboarding and ongoing training programs (e.g., hazard communication, emergency procedures, PPE protocols).
  • Recordkeeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation for all safety activities, inspections, worker’s compensation claims, and regulatory reporting.
  • Safety Committee: Facilitate joint health and safety committee meetings and act as the main point of contact for workplace safety inquiries.

2. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition (30%)

  • Candidate Sourcing & Screening: Post job openings across relevant job boards, screen resumes, and conduct initial phone interviews for open requisitions.
  • Interview Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule interviews between candidates and hiring managers.
  • Onboarding Support: Facilitate new hire orientation, integrating safety compliance seamlessly into the onboarding journey.
  • Talent Pipeline Building: Network with local technical schools, community organizations, and job fairs to build a steady pipeline of candidates.
  • ATS Management: Maintain accurate candidate data and progress status within our Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in occupational health & safety in a manufacturing environment, HR, recruiting, or a related field. Candidates with strong safety experience and demonstrated involvement in recruitment will also be considered.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications in safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, ASP, CSP) strongly preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of OSHA regulations, workers' compensation processes, and standard employment laws.
  • Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities to effectively split focus between safety priorities and recruitment pipelines.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, ATS, and MS Office / Google Workspace applications.
