Overview
The Walinga Corporate Logistics Manager will be responsible for managing all Walinga logistical operations (fleet, drivers, and associated logistics personnel) associated with the transportation of product and trailers from vendors, between plants, and to clients for the United States and Canada. Responsibilities include optimizing and controlling corporate logistics costs to meet or beat department budgets, providing performance measurements to drive improvements and managing the cross border customs documents. In addition, the Corporate Logistics Manager is responsible for the effective and successful supervision of employees, labour, quality control, productivity and safety measures associated with Walinga logistics.
Responsibilities
- Efficiently utilize Walinga trucks, drivers, 3rd party carriers, and Walinga logistics personnel, to manage and ensure that all ongoing needs for the transportation of Walinga products and trailers are carried out in a timely, cost effective manner
- Find and Maximize backhaul opportunities in conjunction with the regional logistics managers
- Manage the Walinga fleet of trucks and trailers, including capital expenditure and equipment replacement planning.
- Hire, supervise and manage employees according to Walinga standards and processes
- Propose budgets and optimize logistic department costs for both Walinga Canada and Walinga USA
- Forecast Walinga’s future logistic needs related to the movement of product & trailers and ensure Walinga is well positioned to meet these future needs.
- Participate in Walinga continuous improvement and/or strategic planning as required & appropriate
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT and any other Road Transportation Regulations that apply to Walinga
- Ensure all employees and especially directly supervised employees work in compliance with the any Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations depending on the Region operating in;
- Ensure employees use any equipment, protective devices or clothing the employer requires;
- Ensure employees are informed of any workplace health and safety hazards that as Supervisor, one is aware of;
- Ensure that employees are provided with written instructions on measures and procedures to be followed for their own protection, if prescribed by regulation; and
- Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances to protect employees, including enforcing procedures established to protect employee health and safety.
- Assist in, or arrange for the training of employees for tasks within the department
- Know, implement and adhere to determined practices for environmental protection
- Maintain Logistics performance measurements to monitor and improve department quality
- Ensure that the Export Documents are generated correctly, submitted properly and that the goods get across the border.
- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities and meet requirements of individual departments
- Investigate trends in damaged shipments - recommend procedural changes if necessary
- Investigate trends in shipping errors for the items that logistics controls - recommend procedural changes if necessary
- Manage the equipment maintenance program
- Manage the execution of logistics schedules and ensure that the appropriate labour and/or fleet requirements are available for timely job completion. Utilize third party service providers as necessary and cost effective.
- Ensure employee work hours, employee complaints and health and safety concerns are all maintained according to company policies and procedures
- Periodic travel is required
- Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for a significant portion of the work hours
Qualifications
- Knowledge, training and experience to organize and perform work activity within all departments associated to logistics and shipping.
- Knowledge of applicable safety standards and ability to follow-up on unsafe conditions.
- Familiarity with the United States OSHA, as well as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Acts and Regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration that apply to the workplace, and know about any actual or potential health and safety hazards in the workplace.
- Proven experience in the Supervision of employees
- Strong basic math skills

Experience
- Five years of equivalent work experience in a fabrication or industrial setting specifically associated with managing resources and logistics
- Participate in skill set and safety training (Supervisor Competency Training or other) as determined by Management
- Ability to utilize safety data sheets and apply Workplace Hazardous Material Safety Information and training
- Good physical health
- Periodic travel is required
- Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for a significant portion of the work hours
License/Certification
- Budgeting: 1 year (Required)
