Overview

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Walinga’s accounting department under the general direction of the Controller, who maintains overall management of the financial function. This position oversees cost accounting, general ledger functions, and financial reporting accuracy. Requiring an advanced understanding of GAAP within a manufacturing environment and strong supervisory skills, the Accounting Manager collaborates with the Controller and operations teams to drive financial performance and optimize operational costs.

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented leader who can mentor a team, streamline financial workflows, and serve as a trusted operational partner to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop the day-to-day activities of the accounting staff (including senior/junior accountants and AP/AR personnel); oversee daily department operations and implement cross-training initiatives under the guidance of the Controller.
  • Financial Reporting: Manage the month-end and year-end close processes; review and approve journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate financial statements for the Controller’s final review.
  • Cost Accounting Oversight: Supervise the development of standard costs, labor and overhead rates, and pricing models for manufactured goods; partner with production teams to analyze variances and report findings to the Controller.
  • Operational Control: Monitor and optimize end-to-end accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring adherence to internal controls, regulatory compliance, and cash flow efficiency.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist the Controller in leading the annual budgeting and rolling forecast processes; collaborate with department heads to analyze and report on expense variances against budget.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate current accounting policies and workflows; recommend and implement process improvements to the Controller to help scale the department, reduce costs, and maximize profit.
  • Capital Assets & Investments: Oversee fixed asset management and depreciation schedules; assist the Controller in evaluating and reporting on the financial return on investment (ROI) for manufacturing equipment.
  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinate and support the annual external review or audit process, preparing required documentation and serving as a key point of contact alongside the Controller to ensure full compliance with reporting standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing cost accounting (standard costing, variance analysis). High proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel functions.
  • Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to manage and motivate a team, build cross-functional relationships with operations, and communicate financial data clearly to the Controller and non-financial managers.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and organizational skills to handle complex accounting workflows in a fast-paced environment.
