Job Summary

This position includes two integrated roles:

Plant Equipment Designer

The Plant Equipment Designer is responsible for designing and developing equipment and systems for production. This role involves creating detailed design plans, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

The Plant Equipment Designer plays a crucial role in optimizing plant operations and enhancing production efficiency.

Mechanical Engineering Designer

The Mechanical Engineering Designer is responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems and structures for Walinga's feed trailers and pneumatic conveying systems.

This role collaborates with Sales and Manufacturing to ensure system performance and customer requirements are met.

This position requires the designer to be onsite and full time.


Role Responsibilities

Plant Equipment Design and Development

  • Create detailed design plans for plant equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Develop 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to source components and materials.
  • Perform engineering analyses to ensure equipment designs are efficient, reliable, and cost-effective.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvements and implement changes to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct risk assessments and design safety features to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, operation manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of equipment in the plant.
  • Provide technical support during the commissioning and startup phases.

Mechanical Engineering Design

  • Design and develop innovative methods for conveying or transporting agricultural products.
  • Ensure designs meet or exceed industrial standards and regulations.
  • Create drawings, assemblies, and documentation to support the fabrication and production of new and current designs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing teams to meet system requirements and design specifications.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, R&D, and Customer Support teams.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for designs and updates.
  • Develop and promote operating procedures and best practices.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as Creo, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in manufacturing plants.
  • Technical skills in machining, machining tolerances, fabrication, and casting are preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with industry standards and safety regulations is preferred.
  • Experience in designing and implementing new products and refining existing products.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be available to work onsite and full time.

Academic and Trades Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, with leadership experience preferred.
